ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Drake Materre, MPH was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, IL. He is a two time alum of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign receiving both his Bachelor of Science in Community Health and a Master of Public Health. Drake Materre serves as the Associate Director Natural Path Nutrition Inc. As associate director, he has been responsible for conducting health and wellness fairs and numerous nutrition and political education sessions. He has served in multiple elementary educational settings including as a 5th grade teacher at Garden Hills Academy in Champaign, IL and as a two time servant leader intern and site coordinator for Children's Defense Fund Freedom Schools.
An avid organizer, Drake has organized with many organizations on issues such as food insecurity, health equity, and the recruitment and retention of Black students and staff at the University of Illinois. Drake's research interests include work alienation and occupational health amongst marginalized workers, suicide in Black men, the intersections of education and health, and workers' rights and labor organizing. Along with his work with NPN, Drake previously held a policy research fellowship with the Illini Science Policy Program and the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation. Currently, Drake serves as a Project Coordinator with the University of Illinois at Chicago, School of Public Health, Community Outreach Interventions Project (COIP) working with the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Drake is certified in Rapid HIV Based Testing.
